Ease Kids Into a School-Year Sleep Routine

Ease Kids Into a School-Year Sleep Routine

Summer often brings looser bedtime routines. This makes returning to school a challenge. Along with the usual sleep advice, these four tips can help get your child back on track.

1.  Use Activity to Your Advantage.

Being active during the day means better sleep. Experts recommend about one hour of activity for kids each day.

2.  Rethink What They Watch Before Bed.

Seeing scary content can cause sleep issues for kids. It is best to avoid it altogether in the evening hours.

3.  Time Food and Drinks Wisely.

Caffeine can disrupt deep sleep. Limit caffeinated sodas, energy drinks, and even chocolate within six hours of your child’s bedtime.

4.  Give Worries a Place to Go.

Add some de-stressing activities into your bedtime routine. Ideas include a journal or doing mindfulness exercises. Sleep does not always fall into place overnight, but over the next few weeks, you can help your child ease back into a healthy sleep routine.
